Angela's Birthday

Wow!  Angela turned 11 this year!  This year she got to spread her birthday out a little bit.  Grandma and Grandpa Jamison came for a visit in early August so we celebrated some of it then.  We had a fun ice cream bar where we all ate just a little too much!

We knew Brian was going to be out of town on her actual birthday so we celebrated the weekend before. She had been wanting to go to Ripley's Believe It Or Not in the Dells so we took her there as part of her birthday present.  She also got some horse riding lessons (we will post some pictures at some point)

Then we had cake and a special dinner on the day of her birthday.  She got to decorate the cake by herself.  She had strawberry cake with a strawberry filling.  Then cream cheese frosting.  She used candies and cookies to decorate it like a checker board.

We love her so much and wish her the best of everything in the upcoming year!

Dirty Girl

In August I got to participate in the Dirty Girl Run.  It was a 5K course with many different obstacles the main one being mud.  The proceeds of the run went to breast cancer research.  I ended up doing it by myself which wasn't as much fun, but Angela has talked about trying it with me next year!

"K" Date

On August 17th Brian and I borrowed some river kayaks from some friends and we headed out for some evening fun.  We put into the Wisconsin River right off of Conant and Summit Streets.  Once into the river we paddled west under the I-39 bridge.  We continued that direction for a while.  Of course this was all upstream so I did not get to take too many breaks.  But the sun and water were beautiful!  We probably paddled for around an hour when we decided it was time to head back.  The ride back downstream was obviously much faster.  It was pretty fun to not have to paddle at all yet we still moved through the water, and quickly too.  For most of the whole trip the water was probably no deeper 2 feet (give or take a little).  Unfortunately, for me, there were a couple of times that I ended up getting "beached".  The entire time on the river was so peaceful and relaxing.  We finished up the date with a little dinner and drinks at the Corner Pocket, where everyone knows our name!!

1st Day of School

Today was Angela and Connor's first day of school.

Angela is starting 6th grade with much trepidation.  She is nervous about the very strict teacher she has (she had her in 3rd grade).  She is nervous about the new things she will learn and how hard they may be.  She is nervous about keeping and building friendships.  The whole thing is just not something she was looking forward to.  That is why she surprised the heck out of me this morning.  She jumped out of bed and got ready in record time.  She was happy and pleasant all morning long.  She even gave me a kiss outside the school, although she wouldn't let me walk up to her room.  I pray for a great first day for her so that she will be excited for the rest of the year.

Connor is starting Kindergarten with much excitement.  His teacher has been teaching for 20+ years and still shows an amazing enthusiasm for the kids.  That has got Connor so ready to go in and have school with her.  He is ready for two recesses out on the playground.  He is very ready to experience hot lunches for the first time.  He is excited to make new friends and to play in his classroom.  He also got ready pretty well today.  This will be a bit of a tough week or so for him since he will be going full days, but I think there will be so much fun for him that he will be okay.  I was almost in tears this morning as he told me I could not walk him back to his classroom.  Fortunately we had some papers for the teacher so that was my excuse to take him back.  Thankfully, since that saved me the embarrassment of crying in front of everyone.

***Apology Time***
For those that have been watching the blog over the summer and have been constantly wondering where the next post is, I am sorry.  I believe I suffer from a bad case of C.R.S. and frequently the blog (and the camera) get forgotten.  I will be updating and adding some things over the next couple of days ~ so stay tuned!
